The Newbie - Diptyque 34 Boulevard Saint German candle

Diptyque has been made super popular by some of the big beauty bloggers and with good reason. The company started small concentrating on boutique fragrances that are said to be nothing like anything on the market. So when I saw that Hautelook were hosting Diptyque for half price I figured I could splurge a bit. This purchase was made in Feb 2013, but I wanted to try the candle a few times before reviewing it, to give you guys my true opinion.

Diptyque 34 Boulevard Saint Germain
I love candles and this is one of the nicest I have ever used. When I smelt it for the first time, I was surprised with how woody and masculine the scent was and I thought I might not like it since I usually prefer florals and fresh scents. But on one summer evening I lit it for the first time, and I was so amazed at the warm spicy scent which was woody but but floral at the same time! It filled my apartment with an amazing aroma and I felt like I was in an upscale spa somewhere. I wanted to save it for special occasions but I think I love it too much so will light it often. Have you tried any of the Diptyque scents? Which one's your favourite?

I think I am going to use the jar as a brush holder, something I have done with the Saint Parfum scented candles too.. another favourite brand of mine :)

    1. I agree the price is daunting.. and frankly ridiculous.. at half price I could only just stomach this :) But the scent is so different that I am happy I bought it. xx

  5. I've heard so much about Diptyque's fragrances and candles, they are so luxe! I've only had a sniff of a few and they were lovely, but the candles retail for almost $100 in Aus which is so ridiculous to me! You are essentially burning your money away, haha. But that's awesome that you got it half price!

    1. $100 is insane.. although $70 is insane too. I paid $35 + tax so about $38. That's over 3 times what I'd pay for a Yankee candle which will be 3 times bigger but it's funny, I think my little Diptyque candle will last me ages almost as long as the huge Yankee candle! I don't know if it's because I'll burn it slowly or if there is something special about the wax or wick. I'm enjoying it nonetheless :)

  6. This candle is so pretty! Isn't it strange how we can like scents that aren't are usual favourites? What a great idea to use the glass as a brush holder for when the candle is finished! :)

    1. Yeah absolutely.. makes me want to branch out more and try different scents. I love the pretty glasses that these candles come in and it's a shame to throw them out. Re-using them will allow me to remember how much I enjoyed it :)

  7. I love the packaging of those candles but I've never bought on. I was once given a smaller version of one of these Molton Brown candles as a gift... http://www.moltonbrown.co.uk/store/scented-candles/three-wick-candles/firefly-embers-forte-candela/CAN085/?_requestid=1905

It smelt likfe bonfires on autumn days! They're expensive but lasted ages and I adored the scent.

    1. I ADORE Molton Brown but have never smelt their candles.. they are expensive too.. sigh. But these ones do last forever and the little candle manages to fill my entire apartment with a spa like sense.

  10. I've never even smelt one of these before, but seeing as I work for Yankee Candle, I don't think I'd be allowed to try one of these! Haha!! ;) The packaging is VERY attractive though, I'll have to give one a sniff next time I'm in John Lewis :)

    1. I love me a Yankee Candle for every day. They are so long lasting and wonderful value for money but sometimes a change is in order :)

Do let me know if you manage to find this in John Lewis. xxx
