The Review - go Glam Glow!!

Hi, I am Shruti and I am a mask addict. The first step is acceptance right? Well, I am glad that I gave in to my addiction this time. The Glamglow Supermud Clearing Treatment is a cult favourite amongst the beauty blogsphere. I have yet to come across a less than rave review of this product so when I saw it for half price on amazon, I decided to seize the opportunity and SPEND!

So as I mentioned this GlamGlow mask is pricey. I think they retail for $69.00 @ Sephora for 1.2 oz which should last you about 17-20 uses. But I found a great deal on Amazon where the same product is sold for half price, i.e. $34.95 including shipping and no taxes!! Woohoo.

The pictures in this post look funny as I took them at night in my bathroom. I really wanted to use the mask as soon as it arrived so I couldn't wait till Sunday and decided to use it last night.

The directions are to use a thin layer on the face and neck (avoiding the eyes). You are supposed to leave it for 5 to 20 minutes. I left it on for the entire 20 minutes as I wanted to see what it could do.

The mask is a grey sludge colour but not as thick as some of the other clay masks I have used. The thinner consistency means that it's easier to spread and easier to wash off. I am pleased to report that I did not experience any discomfort from this product at all. I felt that the cooling sensation soothed my skin.

The Glamglow Supermud Clearing Treatment is supposed to help fight all common skin concerns including breakouts, discoloration, black and white heads, razor bumps, and in-grown hair. It's supposed to visibly draw out dirt and congestion and dramatically brighten and soften skin. With that in mind I made sure I applied this well around my nose area where I have some black heads (yuck).

So how well did it fare? Well, it did soften my skin. I am not so sure about the brightening effect though. With regard to removing black and white heads I reckon it did a decent job. It performed better than any other mask, but not as well as I'd hoped. Maybe after reading all the gushing reviews I had put this on too high a pedestal? I do think that this mask did get rid of about 30-50% of my blackheads on my nose. But I also noticed that it brought a load of blackheads to the surface, so my skin looked (to the eye) worse than before! I think the next time I try this mask, I am going to follow with some nose strips and that should work wonderfully as the Glamglow mask will bring the black heads to the surface and the nose strips will help lift them off. Do you think that would work?

So in all, I am quite pleased with the Glamglow Supermud Clearing Treatment. Even though it didn't perform miracles on my skin like it did for other people, I think that might be because I use a mask weekly on my face and scrub once a week as well. So if you never use masks or are not as disciplined with your skincare routine you might find that this mask makes a huge difference.

I am definitely looking forward to using it regularly and am hoping that this mask will help minimize the occurrence of black heads in the first place. Tell me about your experience with face masks, which ones work best for you?

  1. I always have such good intentions with face masks. I have two tubs of Body Shop scrub/masks sat in my bathroom cabinet at the moment, only one of which I've sued at all and even then only twice. When I use them I love them... just need to build up the habit. But I'm quite lucky with my skin and I do have an excellent moisturising routine so maybe I should just stop buying them ;)

  5. I have that issue with all my masks. They usually break me out and it makes me super depressed because I love using masks. I don't think I will give this one a go. But if you love masks then do try the ones from asian brands. those are the best I've ever used.

  6. I really like this mask-it's definitely one of my favourites. I have similar pore problems around the nose and lower cheeks and I think it's a GREAT idea to use pore strips after the mask-I am definitely going to steal that idea!!

  8. Aww hun, this mask is meant to stop the breakouts though. Also, I find that sometimes masks break me out if I am using them for the first time or after a long break, but soon my skin gets used to them and then I don't have any issues. Maybe that's the case for you?
