The Notes - Egg on your face? Kudos!

Today is National Egg Day in the States!

Eggs are a terrific source of protein and vitamin D, which makes them one of the healthiest breakfast foods.
But eggs are so much more than a terrific ingredient, eggs have lots of uses in skincare too.

In this post we will see how we can use this priceless natural ingredient to help make us beautiful (I mean more beautiful).. and save some dosh too.

Egg yolk -

The yolk is rich in fat and protein which is extremely moisturizing.

Egg whites -

These make an excellent mask base, as they’re full of protein (which is great for nourishing the skin) and they do provide a great deal of firming power AND help reduce the appearance of your pores. I don’t use egg whites often, though, because they can be a wee bit stinky, and I like masks that smell good.  For eons women have been using eggs on their face as masks or on hair as a conditioning treatment, so there must be something to it.

Face masks -

Sea salt, yogurt and egg yolk face mask for dry skin.
A toning egg yolk mask that exfoliates, soothes and also tightens
2 egg yolks
1/2 cup of plain yogurt with active cultures
1/2 tsp of sea salt
Mix it all together until it forms a smooth paste. Smooth onto the face (avoid the eyes) and leave on for 15-20 mins. Wash off with cold or warm water. Pat dry, tone and moisturise.

Cucumber, avocado, egg and milk face mask for normal to dry skin.
1/2 cup chopped cucumber
1/2 cup chopped avocado
1 egg white
2 tsp powdered milk
Combine all of the ingredients in a blender until they form a smooth paste. Apply the mask to your face and neck using circular upward movements. Leave the mask on for 30 mins, or until dry. Rinse your face and neck with warm water and finish with a cold water rinse. This mask will keep up to 30 mins in the refrigerator if you need to prepare it slightly in advance.

Hair conditioning -

For hair loss:
2 egg yolks
2 tbsp almond oil
1 lemon
Mix 2 egg yolks with 2 tbsp of almond oil and a dash of lemon. Wet hair then use the mixture to massage on your scalp and hair. Wrap hair in a shower cap for 30-45 mins then shampoo and rinse.

For shine/extra conditioning:

2 eggs yolks
2 tbsp olive oil
Mix egg yolks with 2 tbsp of olive oil and apply to dry hair and scalp. Leave on for 20-30 mins and rinse out in the shower.

For split ends:

1 egg yolk
1 tsp honey
2 tbsp olive oil
Mix all together and massage into wet hair hair, concentrating on the ends. Wrap hair in a shower cap for 30 mins. Shampoo and rinse.

Do you have any other recipes? Fancy sharing? Let me know if you do end up trying these :)

    1. Hey Dannie,
I do have to agree :) But I did try one of these and used copious amounts of jasmine oil in the mask and it didn't smell of eggs at all. Not bad for a couple of bucks.
